Geoff Irvine, Ottawa Carleton District School Board
Geoff Irvine has been a teacher for 22 years both as a high school History teacher and Department Head and as a part-time and associate professor at the University of Ottawa. In 1996 he was recognized as one of Canada's top Teachers of Canadian History by the Governor General. The following year he was made an associate of Nortel Networks as a winner of the Excellence in Education Award. He has published several textbook books and educational web sites and runs a consulting company called EduMedia that has done contracts for Lever Pond, CoECommunications, the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade and the Privy Council Office. He has worked extensively with the Communications Research Centre of Canada and the National Research Council on the implementation of broad bandwidth information technologies in the classroom. Geoff has been seconded for this last two years by Ottawa Carleton District School Board to develop web-based tools for teachers and students to evaluate work using rubric over the web, which is the focus of today's presentation; and Classroom Cuisine, a web site that delivers teacher training in the form of interactive multimedia, simulations, text and graphics while allowing teachers to access mentors and design and track their own personal training plan, all available at any time over the web.
